Dr. Kamakshi Institute of Medical Science and Research, was established in the year 2008 in Dr.Kamakshi Memorial Hospital, Pallikkaranai, Chennai. It is approximately 3 km from Velachery railway station and is easily accessible. The institute with its good infrastructure and faculty offers PG and various UG & Diploma courses for aspirants who would like to serve in the field of medicine and seek instant jobs to advance their careers. DNB Courses are also available. While the hospital offers placement, the students have also acquired jobs in various hospitals and institutions of repute upon the successful completion of the course. Dr. Kamakshi Memorial Hospital (P) Ltd. is a 300-bedded multi-specialty hospital at Pallikkaranai, Chennai. It is situated in a sprawling 60 grounds land with 75000 sq. ft. Building. The guiding principle of the hospital is to offer the latest health care facilities on par with international standards (obviating the need to go abroad for treatment) and to also make them available to people in any financial strata.
Dr. T. G. Govindarajan, the promoter of the hospital, belongs to a family of entrepreneurs. After graduating from Kilpauk Medical College in the year 1977, he served for three years as a Medical Officer at a clinic catering exclusively to the medical needs of shipping companies. Even during the nascent stage of his career, he had aspirations of establishing a hospital of his own.
In the late 70′s access to even the basic medical facilities was grossly inadequate or non-existent in many localities except for cities and their immediate neighborhood. This presented him with the wonderful opportunity to realise his dream of setting up a hospital to serve the needy. An outpatient clinic was started along with his wife Dr. (Late) G. Kamakshi Sundari. From that point forward, their practice grew by leaps and bounds. This was possible only because of their devotion and dedication to their profession. His dream of having a medium sized hospital was realized when Lakshmi Nursing Home was established at Pallavaram (outskirts of Chennai) in the year 1988. Dr. Govindarajan’s guiding principle regarding medical practice has been and continues to be that all our people must have access to basic medical facilities and the latest in medicare. Medical facilities in our country should develop both in range and quality making it unnecessary to travel abroad for advanced medical treatment.
